Lets check 10 of the best comedy family shows that are funny, witty and relatable. 

10.Derry Girls

Summary:

The show follows Erin and her friends as they grow up in a world of armed police in armoured Land Rovers and British Army check points in 1990s Northern Ireland and attempt to navigate the highs and lows of being teenagers.

The show is a dark comedy and it does mainly focus on teenagers, their insecurities, romantic relationships, friendships, their sexual orientation but it also includes their family relations and therefore its on the list of comedy family shows. 

The adult characters are portrayed as much as the teenage characters. They have their own story line entangled with the teenagers. The characters are imperfect and wild making the show extremely addictive.

9.Single parents

Summary:

Will, a single father, sacrifices his personal life to raise his daughter. When the other single parents see his plight, they decide to help him and themselves maintain a life outside of parenting.

Refreshing comedy family show that involves 4 single parents their ups and downs and how they manage it together. Its chaotic and fun and the children with their sarcasm add more life to the show.

8.Life in Pieces

Summary:

Members of the Short family across three generations go about their daily lives and recount recent events from their unique points of view.

A comedy family show extremely similar to Modern family from the different families to the way things unfold. Each episode has short stories and that contribute to the main story. 

The show got cancelled after few seasons. Its quite underrated as the acting and writing is absolutely perfect.

7.The Middle

Summary:

Frances Heck is a middle-class, married woman and mother of three who resides in the small town of Orson, Indiana, and tries to manage her dysfunctional family and career.

This show has simple yet effective humor.


It teaches us its okay to not be the winner all the time. Its real. Its relatable. This family of five has situations that we've all been in. Its full of chaos and laughter beautifully spun together.

6.Schitts Creek

Summary:

A married couple suddenly go bankrupt and the only remaining asset they have is an ugly small town named Schitt's Creek.

The show bid goodbye after 6 seasons. 

To watch people who have lived an extremely luxurious life, who had billions and now suddenly they have to live in a small town with almost nothing is interesting. 

The sarcasm of David and the accents of his mother Moira add another layer of funny to this show. The characters are unique and quirky and the actors do a great job at portraying them.

 The show deserves the hype that surrounds it.

5.Kims Convenience

Summary:

While running a convenience store in Toronto, members of a Korean-Canadian family deal with customers, each other and the evolving world around them.

We get to see the experiences of growing up with immigrant parents and the difficulties of combining two different cultures. The show is funny, heartwarming and the characters are funny and likeable and we see their development over the course of the show.

4.One day at a time:

Summary:

The series follows the life of Penelope, a newly single Army veteran now a nurse, and her Cuban-American family, as they navigate the ups and downs of life.


Another family show about immigrant family which is absolutely amazing. The characters are realistic and the issues they face are what we may have or might come across. Its just about simply living. 

One of the best parts about the show was how the daughter comes out to her family and how they accept her especially her conservative religious abuela.

3.Fresh of the boat

Summary:

During the 1990s, an immigrant Taiwanese family makes an attempt to adjust to the socio-cultural and socio-economic reality of living in the US.

An addition to the list of immigrant family shows and their experiences in 1990s. The show ended with six hilarious seasons. Its funny light and relatable and the 90s soundtrack makes you nostalgic.

2.Blackish

Summary:

A man tries to get his family to mingle with the neighbours and form a rapport with them in an effort to fit in and find his place in society.

This show spins together common family sitcoms but with plots that are more specific to black community. It portrays struggles that black people face in the community. It is heartwarming and filled with humor and warmth.

1.Modern family 

Summary:

Three modern-day families from California try to deal with their kids, quirky spouses and jobs in their own unique ways, often falling into hilarious situations.

This show ended earlier this year on its 11th season. One of my favourite shows that I've rewatched several times. Each character is written well and played out even better. The stories are interwoven and hilarious combined with witty dialogues and sarcasm this serves as a perfect watch.
