Slice-of-life Kdramas set in the Countryside

Slice of Life KDramas set in the Countryside

Every once in a while we feel stressed about our city lives and dream about a calm and peaceful place.
The dramas and movies on this list are set in the countryside and the narratives are unhurried, slow paced and heartwarming.
They're all feel good dramas with slice-of-life plots and relatable characters.

Lets check 5 of them that are my personal favourites!

1. When the Camellia Blooms (2019)

Synopsis:

Dongbaek, an orphan who grew up to become a single mom, meets and falls in love with Yongsik, a do-gooder police officer in their small town.

My thoughts:

When the Camellia Blooms has an unique theme of romance and thriller with a strong female character.

The best part about this drama is Yongsik's character played by Kang ha-neul. It is such a refreshing treat. We usually see kdrama male leads that are rich cool guys or they have some sort of mysterious past whereas Yong-sik is just a simple minded cop.

Usually roles like his are cast as a side character in most kdramas and they serve as a comic relief. Another thing about him is that he says everything thats on his mind leaving no room for misunderstandings, unlike other kdramas we've watched where misunderstandings lead to a new storyline.

2. I'll go to you when the weather is nice OR When the weather is fine (2020)

Synopsis:

A young cellist, having grown tired of the city, moves back to her hometown where she meets a man who runs the local bookshop.

My thoughts:

Slow. Simple. Beautiful. I watched this kdrama because Seo Kang joon is one of my favourite actors and he potrays his non-cliched male kdrama lead character in this drama perfectly. Its a story about ordinary simple people of a small town.

This kdrama is not for everyone, if you like thrillers, fantasies, huge plot twists don't watch this because it is a slow burn with no extra ordinary situations or dramatic narratives. The compelling part of this drama is the simplicity and adding to it is the music the setting of the place and the faultless acting.

The different characters are realistic, they've made mistake but they've gotten better, healed from it and moved toward happiness. With a satisfying ending this calming, heartwarming kdrama will stay in your mind for a long time.

3. Forest (2020)

Synopsis:

A fearless and intelligent emergency service worker who can't remember his childhood feels drawn to a passionate young surgeon.

My thoughts:

This kdrama has 32 episodes making it the longest kdrama I've watched. It revolves around the forest and incidents that have happened there.

The heart- fluttering romance between the leads is captivating. You will definitely get engrossed in the beauty of nature. For someone living in the city this will be a feel good drama.

Don't expect fast paced narrative. Its slow but it progresses well. The show involves mental health issues that the two leads have because of their traumatic past and how they heal from it.

The aesthetically pleasing themes showcase the wonders and beauty of the forest exquisitely.

4. Tune in for love (2019 Movie)

Synopsis:

A student and a teenager meet at a bakery and try to find each other again as fate keeps them apart.

My thoughts:

I picked this movie because Kim Go-eun is my favourite actress and she did not disappoint!

The movie takes place between 1994 and 2005. It has a beautiful premise and great set up. The film does have it flaws and in my personal opinion it seems like a fault in directing.

Nevertheless this movie does give you the warm fuzzy feeling as you understand the longing of the two leads.

5. Little forest (2018 Movie)

Synopsis:

A young woman grows tired of life in the city and returns to her hometown in the countryside.

My thoughts:

This korean movie is understated and heartwarming. It has an unhurried pace set in countryside like most kdramas/movies on this list.

Something to learn from the movie is to enjoy the simpler pleasures in our life like stopping to smell flowers every once in a while.

We've all felt hungry while watching different types of food in kdramas and this movie is going to be no different.
