This 16 episodes drama recorded the highest cable ratings in South Korea even though it showed the nastiest aspects of a relationship.
Korean dramas are usually light-hearted romantic comedies but that's not the case with this one.
People looking for intuitive breakup shows which includes revenge then this drama is a must watch.
The main lead seems to have everything perfect in life; perfect job as a famous family doctor in town, a perfect husband who is an aspiring movie director and a perfect son.
All this comes crashing down as she starts to suspect that her husband is having and affair and that people around her are all hiding secrets from her.
Plot:
Ji Sun woo is a doctor married to Lee Tae oh and they have a son Lee Joon Young.
Ji sun woo goes to pick up her son from school and meets a woman who came to pick up her daughter.
The woman says shes her husband tae oh's secretary. Ji sun woo didn't know about this. The secretary goes on to say that tae oh leaves work everyday at 5.
Ji sun woo wonders where he goes after work because he comes home at 7 30 everyday.
Ji sun woo's neighbors are good friends with her and tae oh. The neighbors are a married couple Go ye rim and Son je hyuk.
Son je hyuk is jealous of tae oh for having an extremely successful woman as his wife and also somewhat has a crush on Sun woo
He has also cheated on ye rim multiple times and ye rim knows this because she has a gps tracker on his phone.
Divorces are looked down in the society we live in and people hold prejudices against them.
Therefore ye rim keeps her silence and chooses to ignore her husbands illicit affairs.
During the 1st episode ji sun woo's patient min yeon seo comes to visit her to stitch her wounds. She faces physical abuse from her boyfriend. Ji sun woo tells her to leave him.
Moving ahead at a party the next day that tae oh takes sun woo to she meets min yeon seo who is working as a part time waitress.
yeon seo tells sun woo that she can't believe a successful woman like sun woo is no different from her.
Ji sun woo can't seem to get that sentence out of her head and decides to do more digging into her husband.
She goes to meet yeon seo next day and tells her to stalk her husband and find out if hes having affair.
Min yeon seo follows tae oh and send sun woo a picture which kind of confirms it.
Its tae oh's birthday and all his friends and colleagues are there. Sun woo tries to find out if tae oh has the bag min yeon seo mentioned on the call.
Shes goes through his car at the party and finds out that he has a bag with spare clothes and another phone.
When she opens the phone the wallpaper is that of a woman; the woman is the daughter of the man that tae oh is trying to strike a business deal with and her mother is sun woo's patient.
Upon opening the gallery in the phone sun woo finds photos of trips they've been on and in the photos are her neighbours and tae oh's secretary and her boyfriend.
When she checks the messages she reads that her friend warned tae oh that sun woo is going to check his phone and to delete anything suspicious and lay low for sometime.
So in conclusion sun woo is not only being cheated on by her husband dating a woman half his age but also that her friends and neighbors are hiding it from her (also supporting tae oh)
At the same party later tae oh's son sees him kiss yeon da kyung but never tells his mom.
As the story goes on sun woo decides to divorce her husband and starts collecting evidence of his affair in secret and finds out that his company is bankrupt and he needs money.
Sun woo reveals that she knows about his affair at a dinner with yeon da kyung and her family and leaves from there.
Once they're divorced tae oh leaves the town with da kyung and their new born daughter Sun woo and her son stay back.
He comes back after establishing a successful company with da kyung's fathers investment. When he comes back tension starts to spark again.
Tae oh seems to be jealous of sun woo and her male friend( who is a psychologist working in the same hospital as sun woo and likes her)
Tae oh hires the abusive boyfriend of min yeon seo to harass sun woo for ruining his life.
Tae oh tries to connect with his son which in a way bothers da kyung and she thinks he might neglect their daughter.
Tae oh and sun woo one day get in a fight. He tells her to say that she regrets the divorce and that she wants him back
Here we realize that tae oh is kind of a person who likes these kinds of risks, gets high on hiding and doing things of sorts.
During this fight things escalate and they end up sleeping together. Later we find out that their son saw them.
Their son starts to act up because of this. He says thats its easy for adults to make mistakes, ruin relationships and later say sorry and make up.
His annoyance is understandable as his life got turned upside down, his parents got divorced but just like that they slept together.
Further in the story sun woo meets up with da kyung one day and tries to explain how tae oh gave gifts to da kyung that were similar to her's, like clothes and perfume.( Tae ohs creepy). She also tells her that they slept together. Da kyung realizes tae ohs patterns and finally leaves him taking their daughter jenny along with her.
Now tae oh is alone and has nothing left.
Tae oh wants to meet his son( who now hates him). Sun woo, tae oh and their son meet for lunch where tae oh wants to be reunited with sun woo. Their son jun yeong is baffled soon gets up and leaves.
Tae oh tries to commit suicide there by coming in front of a moving truck but is saved in time.
Sun woo goes to tae oh and hugs him and seeing this jun yeong runs away ( he sees how easily they could get back together after going through so much, that they can never let go of each other especially his mother who was the most affected by it. He realized that this could be a cycle and will go on happening again and again).
Sun woo comes home to find a letter that says that joon yeong is now at an organisation for run-away kids.
A year has passed and we find out that sun woo's neighbor friend ye rim has divorced her cheating husband je hyuk and started her own cafe out of town where she now lives.
Da kyung now is learning how to open an art gallery (which was her plan before she met tae oh)
Tae oh has started working again and keeps in touch with sun woo but they remain separated.
Finally the last scene shows that her son has come back to her.
This show was incredible in writing, directing and acting. With all the twists and turns, revenge, angst, lust and sacrifices it keeps you glued to the screen. Its now on netflix so you can binge watch it in one go unlike me who had to wait every week for new episodes.
