Plot:
It has a simple story line that we've seen n number of times; two people meet, they dislike each other, they try to avoid talking or interacting with each other and yet somehow they end up together in circumstances neither of them can get out of.
Xavier and Mico's story is exactly like this. Mico a top student needs to partner with Xavier on a project. He can't let Xavier fail because it will affect his grades and Xavier needs to do this project or else he'll be out of the basketball team.
These two start off on the wrong foot and then slowly and gradually while talking to each other everyday end up liking each other.
The entire concept is virtual similar to Gameboys. Their interactions are all through video calls and texts.
Mico has set up himself to always follow rules. He has made a plan for life. Xavier coming into his life throws away his plans down the drain.
He gets out of his comfort zone and slowly starts living, discovering himself and finally feeling happy.
Other characters:
Mico, Kookai, Junjun and Seph are 4 Freshers and friends. Seph likes Kookai and she likes Mico.
Kookai confesses to Mico but he rejects her and finally by the end we see Seph and Kookai make progress.
Most of the times straight couple in BL series are not interesting enough but these two characters were unique in their own ways.
Junjun was a nice goofy character and always spoke everything on his mind.
Crystal, Xavier's girlfriend had a good story too. I'm surprised they didn't make her toxic. Her breakup with Xavier is what made Xavier open up to Mico.
Review:
This story is exactly how love would bloom while in Lockdown. It has some pretty good topics like self discovery, friendship, rejection and ofcourse love.
The thing that sets Hello Stranger apart from other Bls I've watched is the acting. Its quite good and it makes the characters comes to life.
Yes this enemies to friends is an overused trope but hello stranger makes it feel realistic.
One of the things that I loved about Hello stranger is that the females characters weren't toxic like usually potrayed in BL series.
Since I watched gameboys before watching hello stranger I kept on making comparisons between them.
If the series Hello Stranger was a bit longer we would have gotten to see the two leads become closer and maybe even get a kiss scene.
Nevertheless the story progresses well and the Romamce is a slow burn. The friendship between the 4 friends is highlighted the most.
There's going to be a movie and the production has already started. So I guess now we'll get to see them face to face and not just virtually.
