The Guest List By Lucy Foley Review
PLOT:
A handsome, charming, rising survival show star is getting married to an ambitious, self made magazine publisher.
A celebrity wedding on an island with a sketchy past located off the coast of Ireland, the Guest List includes a bridesmaid, a plus one, the best man, the wedding planner and a dead body!
The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.
But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human.
As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes.
The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.
And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?
REVIEW:
The book serves as a perfect read that can be finished in few hours. It has several POVs and through it, slowly and gradually gives us an insight into the background of the characters, of their history, their resentment towards the people they're surrounded by at the wedding and their traumas.
The author cuts back and forth between the present time and to the time the guests start to arrive along with the 5 different narrators making it complex in a way and interesting.
Although I found that some parts stretched out I enjoyed reading it. I liked that the book did not confine to just the protagonists. It has an Agatha Christie vibe to it, a whodunnit theme which makes it a total page turner. For fans of The Hunting party this will serve as an excellent read!
