Books that give a Gone Girl vibe
Gone Girl was published in 2012 and the movie adaptation was released in 2014. Since then this story has gained immense popularity and makes you want to search for similar stories that have such twists and turns.
Below is the list of books I've read that reminded gave me a Gone Girl vibe.
1.Guest List by Lucy Foley
Summary :
The bride • The plus one • The best man • The wedding planner • The bridesmaid • The body.
On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one.
The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star.
The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher.
It’s a wedding for a magazine, or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey.
The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.
But perfection is for plans, and people are all too human. As the champagne is popped and the festivities begin, resentments and petty jealousies begin to mingle with the reminiscences and well wishes.
The groomsmen begin the drinking game from their school days. The bridesmaid not-so-accidentally ruins her dress. The bride’s oldest (male) friend gives an uncomfortably caring toast.
And then someone turns up dead. Who didn’t wish the happy couple well? And perhaps more important, why?
Thoughts :
This is a very well written book with a lot of POVs which give you an insight of the characters.
The book starts of with a murder and flashbacks reveal what lead to it.

2.The Woman in the Window by A.J Finn
Anna Fox lives alone, a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.
Thoughts :
This book had a good plot twist and though the character of Anna is not quite similar to Gone Girl, its still an engrossing read.
3.The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas.
One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.
Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.
The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.
Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him.
Thoughts:
This book has a lot of hype surrounding it and for anyone who loves psychological thrillers must have at least heard about it if not read it.
The book buildup was good and even though it was a little predictable the author still manages to surprise the reader.

4.The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
Rachel catches the same commuter train every morning. She knows it will wait at the same signal each time, overlooking a row of back gardens. She’s even started to feel like she knows the people who live in one of the houses. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them.
Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. If only Rachel could be that happy. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Now Rachel has a chance to become a part of the lives she’s only watched from afar. Now they’ll see; she’s much more than just the girl on the train...
Thoughts :
This novel seemed a little slow paced to me in the start and I felt nothing but pity for the main lead. Yet moving ahead the pace of the book gets a little fast and the twists make it very interesting. The book is also adapted for a movie of the same name.
5.The Couple Next Door by Shari Lapena
It all started at a dinner party. . .
A domestic suspense debut about a young couple and their apparently friendly neighbors--a twisty, roller coaster ride of lies, betrayal, and the secrets between husbands and wives. . .
Anne and Marco Conti seem to have it all--a loving relationship, a wonderful home, and their beautiful baby, Cora. But one night when they are at a dinner party next door, a terrible crime is committed. Suspicion immediately focuses on the parents. But the truth is a much more complicated story.
Inside the curtained house, an unsettling account of what actually happened unfolds. Detective Rasbach knows that the panicked couple is hiding something. Both Anne and Marco soon discover that the other is keeping secrets, secrets they've kept for years.
What follows is the nerve-racking unraveling of a family--a chilling tale of deception, duplicity, and unfaithfulness that will keep you breathless until the final shocking twist
Thoughts:
The novel keeps you guessing what might have happened to the victim for a very long time. For all the complications its a very simple story, yet it is effective in holding your attention.
6.Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
Summary :
A murder...A tragic accident...Or just parents behaving badly? What’s indisputable is that someone is dead.
Madeline is a force to be reckoned with. She’s funny, biting, and passionate; she remembers everything and forgives no one.
Celeste is the kind of beautiful woman who makes the world stop and stare but she is paying a price for the illusion of perfection.
New to town, single mom Jane is so young that another mother mistakes her for a nanny. She comes with a mysterious past and a sadness beyond her years.
These three women are at different crossroads, but they will all wind up in the same shocking place. Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the little lies that can turn lethal.
Thoughts :
Amazingly written with unique characters. Three friends all, with different personalities and lives. This show is also adapted for a TV series of the same name and is equally interesting with a stellar cast.

7. Before I go to Sleep by S.J watson
Christine wakes up every morning in an unfamiliar bed with an unfamiliar man. She looks in the mirror and sees an unfamiliar, middle-aged face. And every morning, the man she has woken up with must explain that he is Ben, he is her husband, she is forty-seven years old, and a terrible accident two decades earlier decimated her ability to form new memories.
Every day, Christine must begin again the reconstruction of her past. And the closer she gets to the truth, the more unbelievable it seems.
Thoughts :
The main character is quite complex and interesting. The novel feels creepy and the story is quite strong even though you find the end predictable. It is also adapted into a film.
