When I started watching, it was the usual murder mystery. I didn't not have a lot of expectations from the show. Starts off pretty simple - two friends Alma and Brenda have a fun weekend away. But it did not go according to the plan. Alma meets a young handsome guy at a party named DarÃo.
They have a pretty steamy encounter later on. Soon, Alma leaves to go back to her family. After her exotic experience she couldn't stop thinking about him.
Little did she know that DarÃo will be joining her in her classes - which in turn leads to more steamy encounters. This show has a lot of it.
Alma, going about her day, gets a devastating news that Brenda had committed suicide. Broken hearted Alma, once again was found with DarÃo doing the old devil's tango. Even when she says that she can not continue doing this with him, she finds herself in bed with him quite more often. I guess when you're with somebody lust takes over your personality?
Alma then begins to question her husband Leonardo's loyalty. She thinks that he is cheating on her with his assistant Edith. Now, would you look at the perfect couple?! Alma finds solace once again with DarÃo. While this is happening, Estaban, Leonardo's brother is investigating Brenda's case. But he deliberately wants to close the case because he thinks that his dirty secrets with Brenda will be out in the open. Estaban does close the case only to reopen it again secretly with the help of his friend Vellejo. Alma comes clean to Estaban as he had began to suspect that Brenda's case was a murder. Even though the evidences were against his doubts.
The tension increases and both are worried about DarÃo as Estaban runs a deep search about him and finds out he is a dead criminal's son. Estaban connects the dots, he later claims that DarÃo is infact looking for revenge on Leonardo, as he thinks that Leonardo falsely accused his father for sexually assaulting a five year old. Oof!! Estaban and Alma plans a plot against DarÃo. DarÃo is then connected with Zoe, Alma's daughter. This guy just wouldn't stop. Now after this is the crucial part of the series. I have just touched the surface. Won't tell what it is :p. But you should know that if you've come so far reading this you might as well go check the series out for yourself. It gets dark and messy. Real messy! There's more the this story and you won't be disheartened.
My opinion on this show. :
Well for starters I feel they stretched it at some parts but then I also felt like the stretching was necessary to keep the show running. From what I've seen in movies and shows, love makes you do crazy things but that isn't a justification to do horrible things like killing someone in the name of passion. Yes, there is nudity, assault, violence, murder and a whole lot of sex. But it did keep the murder theme alive and kept me hooked till the end.
The ending was the same scene in the beginning, it came to a full circle. But, there was a tangent line forming, meaning - the series ended with a possible season 2. Although, Netflix said that it was too early to think about another season. It aired just a couple of weeks ago. We need a season 2 and you'll know why. It has 18 episodes with 30 to 35 min per episode. It isn't a type of a show where you have to keep everything in mind, even if you forget some parts you'll will be reminded later on in the series, so that's a good point! In show Zoe mentions boiling frog syndrome - The boiling frog is a fable describing a frog being slowly boiled alive. The premise is that if a frog is put suddenly into boiling water, it will jump out, but if the frog is put in tepid water which is then brought to a boil slowly, it will not perceive the danger and will be cooked to death. This is how the show's storyline goes, which I think is pretty intelligent.
Overall I would like to say that this show is good!
