The movies listed below is clichéd romantic comedy movies to watch when you are feeling low or just want to pass some time, take a break. Some of these movies are highly cringey! :P
1. To All The Boys I Loved Before
Summary:
When Lara Jean finds herself attracted to boys, she writes a letter to them without posting it. Her sister then mischievously posts those letter without asking.
Review:
This movie is nice, no doubt. But my opinion is - it's cringey. Some parts were good, it was fun and relatable. It's good for a one time watch. There's a part 3 coming next year. I liked the 1st part more than the 2. The bar is low here. And oh, it won an award for the best kiss....
2. The Kissing Booth
Summary:
Elle and Lee are best friends. But Elle falls for Lee's brother Noah which in turn creates a turmoil between the friends.
Review:
This movie franchise is - (finding different words for cringe is difficult) cringe :p. Elle and Lee's friendship has rules that aren't supposed to be broken, if broken face consequences. Honestly, does this happen in real life? Do you have rule books for friendship? Let us know in the comments. Part one was okay, part two was not okay. Didn't like it. Elle still goes with Noah, knowing Marco is a better option for her? What's that about? #teammarco
3. Perfect Date
Summary:
Brooks create an application to offer as a fake date to girls who needs it. His motive to do so was to earn so that he can go to his dream college.
Review:
The movie is okay-ish. Brooks wants to go to his favorite college and that's why he creats an app to act like a date for girls. But when one such order comes, he falls for her instead. The motive - good, the strategy - not good. One time watch worthy.
4. Sierra Bergers Is A Loser:
Summary:
Sierra is an unpopular kid who wants to make a name for herself. She develops feelings for Jamey. She asks her popular friend Veronica for help.
Review:
One time watch, again. Girls, boys and non binaries, let me tell you something - you don't have to follow the ridiculous beauty standards set by patriarchal society, to be accepted as a human being. Be yourself. The somewhat-lesson we get from this movie. Overall I can say that it's cliché and predictable, but watchable.
5. Love, Simon
Summary:
Simon is a high school boy with secrets. He shares his secret with an anonymous online, only for it be leaked to the entire school.
Review:
In true fashion, saved the best for the last. This movie is not cringey don't worry! I loved it because of its simplicity and relatability. I've seen it a couple of times and yet I don't get tired of it. Overall, it's warm, raw, realistic and emotional. Definitely must watch, at least once.
Notable mentions.
The Half Of It:
Summary:
Ellie Chu is an introverted girl who helps Paul to woo a girl in their school. Ellie and Paul both are attracted to Aster.
Review:
They don't make movies like this. It's warm and touching. Ellie and Paul both falls for the same girl. It also covers about some prevailing issues like immigration difficulties that are faced by immigrants on a daily basis in the US. This coming of age movie is definitely a must watch for every teen out there.
While writing this, I realised all the movies that I selected for this list were Netflix originals. (Except for Love, simon but it's not cringey anyway) So I guess you can say netflix has a way with the most cringe content always.
There are more movies in the same spectrum. I chose these because its wildly popular and most talked about movies. Feel free to recommend me more movies because even if it's cringy, I always survive the experience.
